Tapestry
Drawing on the pattern and choosing colours for the second half of the tapestry.
Process:
Using a google map to guide local knowledge a scaled pattern was drawn up and the outline transposed onto two pieces of canvas (2000mm x 500mm each).
The tapestry is done in wool, cotton, silk, and felt. Occasionally, a synthetic product was used to better match the spring colours. All colours closely match the time of the year on the farm.
Once the base tapestry was in place the following embellishments have been added:
Clay - Hand shaped clay to form hay & silage bales, tractors and buildings
Beads - used to form sheep, people, troughs and sparkles in the water.
Wire - Twisted to resemble fig trees and the windmill.
Silk & Satin ribbons, felt, silk, gauze, organza and cotton fabrics stitched and moulded to form trees, shrubs and perennial pastures.

After 18 months the finished piece is 1900mm x 890mm
Turkish Rugs
These Turkish rugs were completed by me from designs from New Zealand artist Liz Kennedy. They have been done in petite point, stitched onto silk gauze with single DMC thread. There are 42 stitches to the inch, that is 16 stitches to the centimeter. Completing these miniatures helped me develop skills in design, colour and technique. The smallest took me 150 hours with the largest taking about 560 hours, including time for layout and preparing the silk on the frame.
Size: 142mm x 205mm - 227 x 328 stitches = 74,456 stitches 560 hours
Size: 50mm x 70mm - 90 x 131 stitches
Size: 95mm x 150mm - 152 x 223 stitches = 33,896 stitches
